ÐÔÊÓ½ç to Hold May Commencement Ceremonies May 16-17

ÐÔÊÓ½ç will celebrate May Commencement ceremonies for more than 1,000 students May 16-17 on the university’s campus in Romeoville.  

The celebration begins at noon Friday, May 16 in the Fieldhouse with a Mass of Celebration for all the accomplishments of our graduates as well as for the love and support of their families, friends, and educators. All graduates and their families, faculty and staff are invited to attend, regardless of faith tradition. 

The Afternoon Undergraduate Degree Ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. for the College of Business, the College of Education and Social Sciences and degree recipients.

Drs. Reverend Carlos A. Plazas and Blanca Plazas, founders of St. Augustine College, will receive an honorary doctorate degree for their selfless, trailblazing dedication to increasing access to education and their remarkable commitment to education along with their extraordinary selflessness in supporting and accompanying students. The married couple was unwavering in collaborating on their endeavors in education, ministry, and service.

During the ceremony, Nathaly Galvez ’25, Finance, B.A., will be recognized with the Father Aquinas Colgan Award.

Jayme L. Momie ’25, Human Resource Management, B.A., will offer the Lasallian Address at both undergraduate ceremonies, sharing insights on the University Misson values and their meaning to their education. 

The Evening Undergraduate Degree Ceremony begins at 7 p.m. for the College of Aviation, Science and Technology, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications degree recipients.

During the ceremony,  will earn a bachelor of science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Sister Joye Gros, O.P., D.Min., educator and pastoral Leader, will receive an honorary doctorate degree. The Dominican Sister of Peace, has devoted her life to faith, formation, and service. Her legacy reflects a deep and enduring commitment to the Dominican values of truth, contemplation, and justice.

On Saturday, May 17, the Morning Graduate Degree Ceremony beings at 9 a.m. with the College of Aviation, Science and Technology and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences which honors students receiving certificates of advanced study, master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as graduates of adult accelerated programs. Simone Tamara Blackwood will receive a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

The Afternoon Graduate Degree Ceremony begins at 1 p.m. for the College of Business and College of Education and Social Sciences for students receiving doctoral degrees, certificates of advanced study, and master’s degrees, as well as graduates of adult accelerated programs. Angela D. Patterson, Shawn Patrick Alonzo, Sheferaw Mekonen Bezabih, Steven Andrew Torres and Veronica Isabel Diaz will receive a Doctor of Education degree.

Tickets are limited for the in-person events. More information about the degree ceremonies is at lewisu.edu/commencement. The ÐÔÊÓ½ç Television Network and Department of Communications will provide a live stream of the ceremonies.
