Published: July 18, 2025.
The Philip Lynch Theatre has announced four shows for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. The shows include “Trouble in Mind,” “Airness,” “They Promised Her the Moon” and “Sister Act.”
Alice Childress’ “Trouble in Mind” follows a talented black actress who lands a leading role in “Chaos in Belleville,” an anti-lynching play heading to Broadway. A cast of multigenerational Black actors rehearse under the purview of a white director and stage manager, and as the rehearsal process unfolds, theatre conventions and racial politics collide, resulting in a surprisingly funny yet deeply piercing look at the entertainment industry. The show dates are Oct. 3-5 and Oct. 9-12.
When Nina enters her first guitar competition, she underestimates how difficult it will be to win until she meets a group of competitors who show her there’s more to this art than playing pretend, rather it’s about finding yourself in the music. “Airness” performances run from Nov. 14-16 to Nov. 20-23. “Airness” by Chelsea Marcantel is a high-energy comedy about self-discovery, joy and community.
Based on a true story, Laurel Ollstein’s “They Promised Her the Moon” is a compelling drama that explores sisterhood and perseverance. Jerrie Cobb, the first American woman to test for space flight relives her journey from flying planes as a child to advocating for the Mercury 13 in Congress while enduring nine hours in an isolation tank. The play can be seen from Feb. 20-22 to Feb. 26-March 1.
When lounge Sister Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is hidden in a convent for her safety where she then shakes things up with her singing and dancing talents. “Sister Act” is a joyful, music-filled comedy about unlikely friendships, newfound sisterhood and the power of community. The show is on stage from April 24-26 and April 30-May 3.
