Message from President Livingston on Recent School Shootings

Published: September 12, 2025.

Once again, we are experiencing a very troubling period for our country. Recent school shootings in Denver, Minneapolis, Utah Valley University, and the U.S. Naval Academy reinforce the need to safeguard human dignity and protect spaces of learning, dialogue, and community.

As a Catholic and Lasallian institution, ÐÔÊÓ½ç condemns violence in all its forms and reaffirms our commitment to our Sanctified Zone, fostering a safe environment where respectful engagement and the free exchange of ideas can flourish. While members of our community hold diverse perspectives, we are united in our dedication to building a culture of peace, respect, and care for one another.

We hold in prayer all who have been affected by these acts of violence, and we continue our work to ensure that ÐÔÊÓ½ç remains a place where every person can learn, grow, and contribute without fear of violence or intimidation.

For those in need of support, the University’s Assessment and Care Team (ACT) provides resources and assistance for students, faculty, and staff who may be in distress. If you believe a community member needs help, it is your duty to act for the safety of the entire community. Referrals can be made directly to the Student Wellness Center, Residence Life, Dean of Students, University Ministry, Human Resources, or University Police in person, by telephone, or by email.
