Standing Together in Times of Challenge

Standing Together in Times of Challenge

Published: October 10, 2025.

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

The recent deployment of National Guard troops in Chicago and its suburbs, along with the expansion of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the area, has left many in our community feeling unsettled, anxious, and vulnerable. Moments like these remind us how deeply our universities are woven into the fabric of our local communities.

At ÐÔÊÓ½ç, we draw strength and guidance from our Lasallian Mission Values—Knowledge, Fidelity, Wisdom, Justice, and Association. These values call us to affirm the dignity of every person and to stand firmly for peace, justice, and compassion. As a Catholic institution, we are committed to fostering a community where dialogue replaces division and empathy leads us toward healing. A ÐÔÊÓ½ç education prepares students not only with knowledge, but also with the courage to engage their communities in building a more just and peaceful world.

We encourage you to lean on one another during this time and to engage in respectful, supportive dialogue. If you need additional support, please visit the LU Cares webpage or connect with the Office of LaSallian Belonging, University Ministry, Student Wellness Center or Timely Care. These resources offer support across a wide range of areas, from health and wellness to spiritual community, to practical tools for staying safe and supporting the most vulnerable among us.

Let us hold in prayer all those directly impacted by these events, and let us continue working together toward understanding, reconciliation, and peace.

With blessings,
Dr. David Livingston
President
