The ÐÔÊÓ½ç History Department honored the late William "Bill" Storie during the annual William Storie Family Endowed Lecture on Oct. 8.

The event featured presentations by Richard Joyce '73, Lindsey Minas '25 and Henry Gilson '26, whose research explored how local history connects to broader themes in American history.

  • Joyce examined Coal City's history.
  • Minas explored the role of abolitionists and freedom seekers in Lockport.
  • Gilson discussed Lockport's historic preservation movement.

The lecture also honored Storie, who passed away in June, and whose passion for history lives on through the endowed lecture series.

"The Storie Lecture series is always a highlight for those interested in history," said Dennis H. Cremin, chair of the ÐÔÊÓ½ç History Department. "His lecture series carries on his love of history that he would share as he spoke in my classroom each fall."

The annual lecture reflects ÐÔÊÓ½ç's commitment to lifelong learning, historical scholarship and community engagement, inspiring students and alumni to connect local stories with a broader understanding of the past.

The prepares students for careers and graduate study through research, critical analysis and hands-on learning.
