Restorative Justice

The Centerpiece of a Peace Circle

Inspired by the , and in light of the discernable needs for healing and connection within northern Will County and the surrounding region, the Gros Institute works to stimulate dialogue and action toward the use of select restorative justice (RJ) practices.

We gather with individuals and groups on campus and in local communities to grow connections and better understand the need for healing from various oppressive forces, e.g., racism, inequity and division, and conflict.

We strive to imagine a path forward through storytelling, relationship-building, and proactive efforts to dismantle factors which maintain the knee of oppressive systems on the necks of marginalized and colonized peoples.

While there are several effective RJ practices, Peace Circles and mediation are our focus.  After initial Circle Training where participants are trained as Peace Circle Keepers (or facilitators), interested persons may wish to pursue a more robust exploration of Circle Keeping by working toward a . may also be obtained by fulfillment of a Badge
